If you’d like to extend your growing season, a low tunnel is an inexpensive way to do it – we had fresh salad greens in January! The structure of a low tunnel is created with half-hoops of metal pipe conduit (aka EMT), rebar, plastic sheeting, and wood planks to box in a raised bed of soil.

So come prepared to get your pipe bent! Decide how long you’d like your plot to be, and bring 10′ lengths of 3/4″ diameter EMT purchased at your favorite hardware store. For the hoops, you’ll need one piece per 3′ of tunnel length, plus one extra.
